May 2012 Article

Being an Oncology Nurse is a beautiful thing!   Happy Oncology Nurses Month!  This link, published in 2003 was the best comprehensive article about our specialty that I could find.  An important update would be that ONS now has over 12.600 members worldwide, and over 230 local chapters throughout the United States.  Our  hospital is currently working on establishing a local chapter in Lake County!

Any one interested in being part of the startup chapter please let me know.

Questions:
  1. What prompted the creation of Oncology Nursing as a specialty?
     2.  Why are the six Standards of Care  important to our practice?

     3.  How and why was ONS started?

     4.  What is AOCN and who can apply to sit for the examination?

Please include your name, department, and email address with your responses.
