April 16th, 2019 - National Healthcare Decision Day


I would like to use our last journal club post of the year as an opportunity to promote National Healthcare Decision Day. As healthcare providers we have all been witness to end of life tears and indecision when patients do not make their wishes clearly known. Please read and share the following link with your friends and family National Healthcare Decision Day.

The Conversation Project has resources for anyone who needs help bringing this topic up with their loved ones. But hey, if that's not you, cut to the chase and download the paperwork you need under State Specific Documents in the section that follows.

Questions
  • What percentage of American Adults have executed a Living Will?               (watch the videos at the bottom of the page)
  • Why should your Advance Directive documents avoid the words " never" or "always"?  (hmmm, maybe one of the videos has the answer)          
Discussion Questions
The only discussion questions that matters this month are the ones that you have with your family and loved ones about end of life decisions and preferences. 

Please send your answers to melissa.luebbe@ctca-hope.com. You may also send your ACE verification forms to me by email or by inter-office mail - Melissa Luebbe /Pain Management Department.

    Thank you Melissa for the Journal Club. The topics are interesting, thought provoking and help to mold us into the nurses we are. Sometimes we are so busy we forget to breathe and remember why we went into nursing. You bring the passion back with the discussion board. Pat

    Much thanks to you, Melissa. I have enjoyed another year of Journalphoria. This is my favorite method of obtaining points for the ACE clinical ladder. It's always fun and enlightening to hear from everyone from all of the different departments at CTCA MRMC.

Being allowed to read everyone's responses is my favorite part of Journal Club, we have some very talented writers and scholars in the group!     Having joined the Journal Club for more than 5 years now, I felt that this has become a great avenue in expressing your thoughts, feelings, and knowledge to other colleagues. The topics this year was very interesting and thought provoking that somehow as I ponder, has made a big impact in my own nursing practice. I would just want to thank you Melissa for the hard work and dedication that you put into it to make this Club a happy place for self and knowledge expression. I am truly proud to be part of this and I look forward to more interesting topics next year.

      Thank you Richie, your comments touched my heart. We all encourage each other in many ways. Eight years ago I was pretty excited about starting an on-line journal club but thought it would fail and no one would join. Carmelita kept nudging me, and gave me the encouragement not to give up!
